<image:title>Fiction - NOV/DEC WRAP UP - RATING: 3.5 ⭐️</image:title>
<image:caption>This is a great, practical book that helps you pause and make simple, soulful decisions. I listened to it during a season when I was overwhelmed and overthinking a big life decision, and it helped bring me back into alignment—focusing on trusting God and choosing the next best decision rather than getting lost in questions about the bigger plan (which I always tend to do). I appreciated how short and straight to the point the chapters were. The insights and practices packed a punch without feeling repetitive. I also loved that each chapter is paired with a prayer and a simple, tangible practice, making the book extremely practical and actually applicable rather than just another “self-help” read. Emily Freeman has a gift for taking spiritual principles and distilling them into digestible, implementable steps that feel both grounding and encouraging. I would definitely recommend this for any fellow overthinkers out there, or for anyone facing a decision that has them feeling stuck at a stalemate. AGE RECOMMENTDATION: 16+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE As someone who was an avid Dance Moms binger in college, I was excited to read this one! This was a simple but necessary telling of her story—well written and well narrated. You can tell she is incredibly smart, wise, and self-reflective for her age. I really appreciated the in-depth look she provides into being the “token Black girl” and what that actually looks like, feels like, and does to your mental health and self-esteem. Her willingness to share the exclusion that comes with being the only Black person in predominantly white spaces is powerful, especially when you consider that she and the other dancers were children at the time. Hearing her experience through a racial lens adds an important layer of perspective, and the amount of microaggressions she and her mom endured is honestly wild. While the book is clearly meant to share her experience from her own point of view, there were moments that leaned slightly toward feeling exploitative or like calling out specific actions or people. That said, it never felt vindictive—only honest and true to how she experienced those moments. One of my favorite parts of the memoir was seeing her healing journey after Dance Moms and how working with a therapist helped her recognize the manipulation, gaslighting, and narcissism she was exposed to on the show—and, more importantly, how she learned to detach those experiences from her self-worth. It’s beautiful to see her now using her platform and voice to advocate for change within her generation and the Black community. I would recommend this book regardless of whether you were a Dance Moms viewer or not! AGE RECOMMENDATION: 16+</image:caption>

<image:caption>VIOLENCE: LIGHT SPICE: LIGHT ❤️‍ This was a highly recommended and heavily hyped fantasy series that I had been anticipating for quite some time. The story follows our female main character, Isla, on the island of Lightlark. As the ruler of the Wildling realm, she is called upon to compete in the Centennial alongside the other rulers of the realms. The story was a very slow start. I originally began reading it in October, made it about 70 pages in, and did a soft DNF because I just wasn’t clicking with the story or the world-building. I picked it back up in November, and even then it still took a while to fully get into the storyline and connect with the characters. The first half felt especially slow, with a heavy emphasis on world-building that didn’t fully land for me. For a long time, I struggled to clearly picture the world and the characters, which is a big factor in whether I can truly get drawn into a fantasy. That may have been partly due to the lack of a map, which I usually find really helpful in grounding a new fantasy world. Once I was finally able to visualize the setting and understand the characters better, the story did start to come to life and become more intriguing. Many of the major plot points felt predictable—particularly around loyalty lines and who could or couldn’t be trusted—but I did genuinely appreciate the final twist at the end, which I didn’t see coming. It felt earned and made sense with the details laid out throughout the story. That said, the book easily could have been about 100 pages shorter. The beginning dragged and felt repetitive at times, which made it harder to stay engaged. I am glad I picked it back up when I was in a better reading mood and didn’t completely write it off, but I also wish it had ended on more of a cliffhanger. I’m curious to see where the series goes, though I’m not necessarily rushing to pick up the next book. If you’re a fantasy lover, this might still be worth checking out. But if you’re newer to the genre, I think there are stronger, more engaging options to start. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 16+</image:caption>

<image:caption>I’ve been seeing people rave about Fredrik Backman’s books all year. So, I had high expectations going into this one, and I was not disappointed! This story follows a group of strangers who become hostages during a bank robbery gone terribly wrong. Alongside their perspectives, we also follow the POVs of the two cops trying to piece together who did it and how the hostage situation actually unfolded. The writing in this book is beyond superb. The many juxtapositions about life and what it means to be human are so well done—and often genuinely humorous. It’s impossible to read this book without chuckling from time to time, and it’s just as impossible to read it without being challenged by some truly poignant truths. One of the most impressive things about Backman’s writing is how it almost feels anxious—as if you’re reading the internal thought process of an anxious person in real time. It’s brilliant. The way each character’s story is woven together through shared threads is astonishingly well done. You don’t even fully realize how connected everything is until it’s revealed, and then you’re left thinking, wait… no way. I loved following the lives of so many different characters and watching their stories unfold. The overarching theme—that we need people who are different from us to help us better understand ourselves—was beautifully portrayed. The connections formed despite differences, and the way the book highlights that everyone carries their own worries and anxieties, felt incredibly honest and human. The character growth was deeply satisfying to watch unfold, and the subtle thread of mystery woven throughout kept the story engaging and moving at a great pace. Even with multiple POVs, the book never felt bogged down or overwhelming. This was such a thoughtful, heartfelt, and impressive introduction to Backman’s work, and it definitely won’t be my last—highly recommend! AGE RECOMMENDATION: 21+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE SPICE: LIGHT ❤️‍ It felt only right to cap off the year with another Lynn Painter story, especially since my first book of 2025 was an unforgettable five-star read from her. This story follows our two main characters, Alec and Dani: childhood best friends turned brief fling, turned strangers, turned enemies… all leading to a fake relationship and, possibly, love. The book was fast-paced overall and the story moved along well, yet somehow it also felt a bit too long. The beginning dragged, and it took far too long for the plot to actually get to the heart of the fake-dating premise. The slight nod to Liz from Better Than the Movies was cute in theory, but I actually didn’t love the recycling of using songs to define moments. It felt like an attempt to recreate what made Better Than the Movies so special, but in this story, it didn’t quite fit the tone, characters, or overall vibe. I really wanted to fall in love with the romance, but it never fully felt authentic to me. There were moments that were playful and cute, but at times the MMC’s bravado and dialogue pulled me out of the story. Some of the conversations felt cringey, and I was honestly surprised by the amount of cussing—especially given that this is a YA book with teenage characters. It felt less like it was adding emotional weight and more like an attempt to make the characters seem edgy or relevant, which didn’t quite land for me. That said, the supporting characters were definitely a bright spot—especially the family dynamics. I also appreciated the FMC’s internal journey of feeling displaced and eventually finding a sense of home within the town. The MMC’s inner struggle was compelling as well, particularly the way the book explored the pressures young, talented athletes face while trying to build a future. The hockey/sports trope also added a fun and unique element that I enjoyed. The ending did feel somewhat rushed, but I appreciated that most of the plot points were wrapped up. This was definitely no Better Than the Movies, and I may forever be doomed to compare all of Lynn Painter’s books to it. Still, if you’re looking for a sweet, simple YA romance, this one may be worth picking up. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE SPICE: NONE Another book that carried a lot of hype this year and after reading it, I totally understand why. This story follows our female main character, Katarina Shaw, an ice dancer with her sights set on Olympic gold, alongside her partner, Heath Rocha. But can she truly have both—burgeoning success and a passionate love? This book had excellent pacing and truly engaging storytelling. I loved how portions of the skaters’ journeys were narrated through short interview-style POV sections—it kept the story moving quickly, added a juicy layer of drama, and gave the whole thing a documentary feel. Since the story spans a large stretch of time, these bite-sized interview moments highlighted the most important beats without making the book feel dense or overly long. The imagery and behind-the-scenes look into the world of competitive ice dancing were fascinating and made the plot feel fresh and unique. I especially loved the portrayal of a cutthroat, determined, success-driven FMC—for better and for worse. The way her athletic ambition and devotion to the sport were written made her such a nuanced character, and the emphasis on choosing skating over everyone and everything else made her eventual character arc deeply satisfying. And the drama! That might have been my favorite part. There are multiple dramatic storylines unfolding at once, and it honestly felt like reading a soap opera—in the best possible way. You never quite know what’s going to happen or where the characters will end up, which made this book incredibly hard to put down. But the standout element for me was how such a passionate relationship was portrayed without any explicit spice on the page. The deep romance was implied rather than shown, and that restraint felt so refreshing and effective. To all my romance lovers out there—I definitely recommend this one! <image:caption>Another home run from John Mark Comer. In this book, he breaks down work, calling, purpose, rest, and Sabbath through a biblical and theological lens—while thoughtfully weaving in his own personal experiences along the way. All I know is this book truly read me, not the other way around. As a self-proclaimed recovering workaholic, it gave me a much deeper understanding of things I’ve already been learning and processing in my own life. And that’s my favorite thing about Comer—his ability to take concepts you may already be aware of and give you a stronger, more grounded theological framework to stand on. The way he teaches through Genesis and God’s original intention and design for work, beginning in the Garden, was genuinely transformative. He takes the reader on a journey from the very beginning of creation, through God’s original intent for humanity, how that intent has become distorted in the modern world, and how we can begin returning to a healthier, more Eden-like way of working and living. His definition of workaholism—likening it to an addiction—was especially powerful. It forces you to hold up a mirror and ask hard questions like: Am I addicted? And if so, how do I change? Thankfully, he doesn’t leave you there. Comer offers wisdom and practical guidance for moving forward, particularly through rest, Sabbath, and rhythms that combat burnout. This is a must-read for anyone who loves their work, feels constantly driven to chase a calling, or is searching for deeper purpose without burning themselves out in the process. 10/10 recommend—especially as we head into a new year! <image:caption>This is a must-read for every millennial. I may be biased—since I spent half the year working through this book alongside my therapist—but it brought an incredible amount of awareness, understanding, and healing to so many areas of my life. The author presents complex psychological concepts in a way that feels both weighty and extremely practical. Because everything is communicated so clearly and simply, it’s easy to recognize when you’ve experienced the behaviors and family dynamics being discussed. She also weaves in real stories from her patients, which makes the concepts deeply relatable and helps you see your own experiences with greater clarity. With so much discourse today around millennials and their strained relationships with boomer parents, this book stands out as one of the most helpful resources I’ve encountered. It approaches these dynamics through a grounded, psychological lens that gets to the root of the issues while also offering constructive, compassionate paths forward—without defaulting to “no contact” or reducing parents to villains. I truly recommend this book ten times over! AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

      <image:title>Fiction - SEPT/OCT WRAP UP - RATING: 4.5 ⭐️</image:title>
<image:caption>SPICE: LIGHT ❤️‍ This is the perfect transitional summer to fall book! We follow our female main character, Lenny, as she is fresh off grieving the death of her best friend to cancer. She picks up a nannying gig putting herself in the path of our male main chatter, Miles. He offers to help Lenny overcome her grief in a surprising way that leads to healing and unexpected outcomes. The focus on pure humanity in this book—grief, simple joys, friendship—was so beautiful and grounding. I absolutely loved the flashback sequences of her friendship with Lou mixed with the present-day story of her walking through grief. It allows us to see and feel their friendship while simultaneously watching her journey of grieving it. The characters were some of the most lovable I’ve read in a while. There’s just something about Miles—the way he cares for and truly sees Lenny at her core—that is so sexy and swoon-worthy. What really stood out to me, though, was how this story centers not just around romance but around grief and familial love, and the beauty that can come from both. And that slow-burn romance? Perfection. I loved watching all the small moments between them in the quiet ways they bonded causing our FMC Lenny to not even realize what was happening until halfway through the book. It was such a refreshing change of pace from the typical fast fall romances. Instead, we got to really savor the friendship building first, giving us more real-life moments full of genuine human emotion that make love feel lasting and believable. In the end, it’s not even the romance that touches you most—it’s the way they help each other grow toward what they each need: Lenny’s healing and acceptance of her friend’s passing, and Miles finding peace and security in his love for his family. The conflict here isn’t about a romantic misunderstanding but rather a deeply human one: learning to live with loss. This book is heartwarming, emotional, and tender. It captures the ache and the beauty of love, loss, and connection all at once. I definitely recommend this one and can’t wait to read more of Cara Bastone’s books! <image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE VIOLENCE: MILD SPICE: MILD ❤️‍❤️‍ This was super witty and entertaining, delivering a perfect satirical take on influencer culture. In this story, we follow two former college besties, Lizzie and Bex, who have long since drifted apart. Bex is now a wildly famous tradwife influencer, while Lizzie’s writing career is barely staying afloat. When Bex entices Lizzie with the promise of an exclusive interview that could revive her career, Lizzie jumps at the opportunity. But once she steps into Bex’s perfectly curated world, it becomes obvious that nothing is quite as it seems—and Lizzie is left picking up the pieces of truth behind her former friend’s seemingly glamorous life. I loved the snarky commentary on online creators and the way this story peels back the curtain to show just how curated, staged, and downright fabricated so many influencer “lifestyles” really are. The mystery elements were pretty solid too. Nothing overly high-stakes or heart-pounding, but intriguing enough to keep you turning the pages to see where everything was headed. The final reveal was fun and not overly predictable, which I appreciated. Lizzie’s character was another highlight. It’s so easy to relate to getting pulled into the rabbit hole of someone else’s online life and finding yourself both skeptical and strangely drawn to it. The book captures that tension really well. My only real gripe was the heavy-handed portrayal of toxic masculinity. Some of those plot lines felt a bit too extreme for my personal taste and for the otherwise playful, satirical tone, and they occasionally pulled me out of the fun. Still, if you enjoy commentary on the bizarre behaviors and wild excesses of influencer culture—this would be a fun read for you! It’s a light, clever, and entertaining read worth picking up. <image:caption>VIOLENCE: MODERATE This one was an extremely easy, binge-able, fast-paced read. This is the first book in a series following our female main character, Cassie, who is recruited by the FBI into a classified program for teenagers to assist in solving cold cases. Throughout the book, we follow Cassie and the group of gifted teens as they work to crack a decades long serial killer case. The premise of bringing teens with special abilities in to work with the FBI was fun, unique, and genuinely intriguing. The mystery itself was solid and kept me guessing pretty much all the way to the end. I appreciated the driving force of having two killers whose cases were connected, which created a great puzzle for the reader—trying to figure out how and who tied everything together. I will say, I was a bit taken aback by how graphic parts of this were for a YA thriller. Maybe I’m becoming more sensitive, but the descriptive nature of the kills felt more intense than I typically expect from YA. I usually pick up YA thrillers because they lean toward mystery over gruesome detail, and this one definitely pushed that line more than expected. That said, it did deliver that classic YA-mystery feel of solving the case alongside the characters, which I always enjoy. The characters themselves were fun and likable, adding to the story’s binge-ability and my interest in continuing the series. However, the ending was oddly unsatisfying. After all the build-up and suspense, the final twist lacked that “wow” factor—parts of the killer’s motive didn’t fully add up, which made it feel slightly unrealistic. I was actually more shocked by some of the smaller moments along the way than by the reveal itself. If you’re looking for a quick read to cure a reading slump or give you a little mystery, I would recommend this book. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

<image:caption>VIOLENCE: MILD This one followed in the footsteps of the first book—being super fast-paced and incredibly binge-able. We follow the same group of teenage characters as they work to solve the case of a copycat killer, and this time they find themselves a little too close to the line of the action. I loved that we get the same lovable, quirky cast of characters, but what I appreciated most was how this book digs more into their backgrounds, personalities, and histories. It made the group feel so much more dimensional and ultimately strengthened the entire story. I also felt like the main plot here was much stronger than in the first book. It was more cohesive, the mystery was more intriguing, and I loved getting to see the characters interact with the supposed “killer” throughout the investigation. The “strangers on a train” storyline was so perfect for this one… which is why I was left a little disappointed when the final twist diverted away from that angle. Just like in book one, the end twist left me scratching my head—it felt messy, rushed, and a bit forced, almost like the author added in a last-minute shock that didn’t quite serve the story. I’m also still holding to my thought that the violence in this series feels surprisingly descriptive for YA. Not a deal-breaker, but definitely unexpected. And as for the love triangle… I’m not super invested. It feels more like a side plot than a core emotional thread, so those moments don’t hit as hard for me as I think they’re meant to. Overall though, this book had much stronger character development and a tighter mystery than the first, and it definitely left me wanting to pick up the next in the series. <image:caption>SPICE: MILD ❤️‍❤️‍ This was a gorgeous, layered look at fame, love, identity, and the cost of reinvention. The story follows our female main character, Monique, as she’s unexpectedly selected by Hollywood icon Evelyn Hugo—our second FMC—to pen her memoir in a full tell-all. As they sit down together and Hugo begins to unravel the story of her life, it leads to an ending Monique never saw coming. I loved the diversity in the character backgrounds. There’s something so refreshing about having a biracial (black and white) main character in Monique and a secondary lead like Evelyn who is Latina. And the imagery—wow. The old Hollywood glamour absolutely oozes off the page. From the fashion to the film sets to the smoky allure of the 50s and 60s, Taylor Jenkins Reid paints everything with such vivid, cinematic detail. This was my first Jenkins Reid book, and her writing hooked me immediately. Her writing is definitely impressive with strong structure and flow. I loved how this book centered fully around the telling of Evelyn Hugo’s life, with each section dedicated to each of her seven marriages. The nuance she brings to each relationship made the story super compelling. While I don’t personally condone many of the actions depicted, I appreciated how the story explores the layers behind people’s choices—the context, the pressure, the survival, the things that aren’t always visible from the outside. The book also does a great job exploring wealth, fame, and the cost of chasing both—how you can lose yourself in the chase and miss out on what matters most. I equally found the depictions of taboo relationships during the 50s, 60s, and 70s especially fascinating. Seeing how society, politics, and the entertainment industry shaped (and constrained) people’s lives was such a compelling thread throughout the story. This book truly hooks you from the first chapter and keeps you engrossed with Evelyn’s vibrant, brash, unapologetic voice paired with beautiful, immersive writing. And that final reveal? Timed perfectly. I loved watching Monique wrestle with the complicated truth about her own life and how far we sometimes go to protect the people we love—even when it goes against what we believe is right. I would recommend this one, especially if you are a fan of historical romance or fiction! AGE RECOMMENDATION: 21+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE MATURE CONTENT INCLUDED When I found out Mayci Neely was releasing a memoir, I was so excited to read it! She’s always been my favorite Momtok member and this memoir completely confirmed that while giving me a deeper understanding of why I’ve always gravitated toward her on the show. For me, the style of writing was very staccato, almost like you’re reading a diary entry from a teenager. It’s super fast-paced and I appreciated the short chapters because they made the reading experience quick. The writing itself is very simple—not necessarily a bad thing—but I personally prefer when a memoir leans into deeper, more complex descriptive writing. I still loved getting to read her entire story and seeing all of the trials and hardships she faced in her relationships, especially around topics like abuse, teenage motherhood, sex outside of marriage, and grief. I also found it extremely interesting to see the ways the Mormon religion affected her mental health and self-worth, and how it can be very controlling and judgmental almost to a fault. I did love seeing her full trajectory—from stepping outside of strict Mormon rules to eventually coming back to her religion and tradition after the tragedies she faced. I also found it interesting to learn how Momtok is more of a side hobby for her and not what made her famous. It was refreshing to see how she built her platform and brand on her own, with Momtok simply being a supplementary way to continue growing her following. She has always seemed like one of the more normal, grounded ones from the Momtok group, and this memoir gives clear insight into why. It shows how well-rounded and grounded she really is. It’s a simple but beautiful memoir about honesty, tragedy, perseverance, and rising from the ashes. And I love how her personal mission is to use the tragedies she’s been through to help other women who have faced those same things—giving them a voice. I would recommend this if you’re a fan of Mayci or Momtok. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 21+</image:caption>

<image:caption>This book was everything I had been missing and yearning for in a story! If I could, I would give this 6 stars—it’s truly the first book I’ve ever felt that much love for. This story follows our two female main characters, Tully and Kate, through four decades of friendship—spanning high school, careers, marriage, family, fame, and tragedy. This is such a beautiful portrayal of lifelong friendship and all the mess, joy, love, disappointment, hurt, and mixed emotions that come with knowing someone so deeply for so long. I loved the variety of themes explored in this book—toxic family dynamics and the lasting effects on children, the pressure to follow someone else’s vision for your life, the push for women to choose career over family, and the complicated layers of friendship and jealousy. I loved the continuous timeline and how the story moved through different decades. It added the perfect historical touch. My favorite aspect was the juxtaposition between the life paths the two friends chose: one dedicated to career and fame, the other to marriage and family. The way both were portrayed—with their highs, fulfillment, doubts, and sacrifices—felt so honest, real, and relatable. The writing flows effortlessly—from the dialogue to the raw emotions—to the point that you truly feel every high and every low right alongside the characters. The one thing I truly disliked was Tully’s character and the selfish immaturity she often brought into her friendship with Kate. Even her final apology felt like it came more from the weight of circumstances than genuine personal growth. The last 100 pages had me weeping, like full-on tears streaming down my face. The beauty of love and family being what truly matters in the end was beyond moving, and the way true friendship hits every emotional nerve made this such a powerful read! Run don’t walk to get this book in your hands! AGE RECOMMENDATION: 21+</image:caption>

This book was a beautiful depiction of personal poetry and reflections. It was super simple and a quick listen—perfect for a pallet cleanser between books. The audiobook was especially wonderful—his voice adds so much character and nuance that it truly brings the poetry to life. He’s incredibly talented at putting his thoughts and life concepts into words, and I loved seeing his interpretations of different life moments and scripture verses. My favorite passage was the “time” section, and I actually want to buy the physical hardcover just so I can highlight all my favorite snippets—there were quite a few gems throughout. <image:caption>This book is the sequel story to Firefly Lane— following the same set of characters in the aftermath of the original story. This book can be summed up as a tale of moments lost. It’s an excellent follow-up to the original story and still captures all the heartfelt, emotional writing Kristin Hannah is known for. Personally, I think I preferred the chronological storytelling structure of the first book more than the flashback approach used here, but I still loved getting to see the emotional aftermath each character faced after the incident that closed out the original. Watching the ways grief pushed each person into different decisions was heartbreaking, yet honest and real. My favorite part was finally learning Dorothy’s full story and past. It was a powerful reminder that you never truly know the “why” behind someone’s choices, attitudes, or behavior—and that taking things at face value can lead to devastating misunderstandings. Of all the reconciliations in this book, Tully and Dorothy’s was hands-down the best. It beautifully carried the theme of “love and family being what matters most” into this sequel, making both books feel emotionally cohesive. I also loved how the author managed to wrap up all the complex, turbulent storylines in a way that felt meaningful, interconnected, and deeply satisfying. I would 10/10 recommend these books to literally everyone and I cannot wait to pick up more Kristin Hannah books in the new year! AGE RECOMMENDATION: 21+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE VIOLENCE: LIGHT SPICE: LIGHT ❤️‍ I kicked off the month with a brand-new thriller from an author I’d actually read not too long ago. While I enjoyed their previous book, this latest release left me wanting more. In this story, we follow three childhood friends—Julia, David, and Erika—who grew up as neighbors on a lake in Vermont and reunite there every summer as adults. Alongside them, we also get the perspective of David’s nanny Izzy, our female main character. She quickly becomes entangled in the group’s dynamics and what begins as a their usual lakeside escape soon unravels into a tangle of simmering tensions, buried secrets, and the fallout of a missing person that sets the stage for betrayals and shocking revelations. The pacing of this book was solid with well-structured chapters that made it a quick read. It wasn’t necessarily bad, but the themes—particularly the more sexual elements—just weren’t my cup of tea. Because of that, once the mystery kicked in, the moments meant to build suspense actually felt a bit off-putting, which took away from the thrill for me. On top of that, the big twist reminded me a lot of the one in her previous book, “The Block Party”, which I read just a few months ago—so it didn’t land quite as strongly this time around. The most likable character by far was Izzy and her connection to the mystery really carried the book for me. Her POV chapters were the highlight. Unfortunately, the ending spiraled into something messy and confusing, with too many threads trying to tie together at once—which honestly just left me wanting it to be over. Overall, this one left me feeling pretty “meh,” and I don’t see myself reaching for another book by Jamie Day anytime soon. AGE RECOMMENTDATION: 21+</image:caption>

<image:caption>This was the first memoir I picked up this month and wow—it was raw and absolutely heartbreaking. The memoir follows Jill Duggar, known for growing up in the famous Duggar family, whose life was broadcast to millions on the TLC show 19 Kids and Counting. She shares an unfiltered look at her experience of being raised in a controlling, overly strict religious household while simultaneously living in the public eye. As Jill pulls back the curtain, what emerges is a story that’s deeply distressing, traumatic, and often difficult to digest. I really commend Jill and her husband for having the strength and courage to challenge their family system and beliefs, and for stepping away from the toxic parts of that environment. She’s honest about what it took to separate themselves—setting boundaries, seeking therapy, and navigating difficult conversations with her parents—and I appreciated her willingness to disclose on those struggles. So many details of her experience are heartbreaking and devastating—lending to a sobering reminder of how children who grow up in entertainment families, especially those tied to strict religious structures, often carry deep and lasting trauma. My lower rating comes down to the fact that while this was a strong memoir, I’ve read others that offered a more introspective narrative with deeper reflection. At times, I found myself wishing Jill had gone further in unpacking themes around high-control religious spheres and the invasive nature of entertainment culture. Perhaps the saddest part of this book is realizing just how much trauma and toxic treatment still lingers over her life and shapes her perspective today. Overall, I appreciated Jill’s ability to acknowledge the good in her family without letting it overshadow the serious issues and toxicity she endured. This memoir would especially resonate with those who watched 19 Kids & Counting or anyone interested in the psychological effects of growing up in highly publicized families. <image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE VIOLENCE: MODERATE A thriller set on a tropical island—what more could we ask for? This story unfolds in a dual timeline, told through two POVs: one in the past and one in the present. In the past, we follow four friends—Tilly, Anna, Linnea, and Evelina—on their annual getaway to a remote island, a trip that ends in the shocking murder of all four girls. In the present, we follow Tessa our female main character. She is a struggling true crime podcaster who returns to the same island ten years later for a friend’s bachelorette party. But Tessa has a secret motive for joining the trip: uncovering the truth behind what really happened to those girls a decade ago. The question is, can she solve the mystery before putting herself and her friends in the same danger? Right off the bat, I enjoyed that the story was set in Stockholm—the cultural backdrop gave it a fresh twist without distracting from the writing. The book was such a quick, fast-paced read, with short, easy-to-digest chapters that kept the story moving effortlessly. I loved the way the plot unfolded—the author sprinkled in the mysterious elements at just the right times with the dual storylines. They weren’t too early to give things away and they weren’t so obvious that you could piece it all together. Honestly, I couldn’t figure out what was happening until the very end and that’s exactly what I want in a thriller. I kept guessing suspects, only for the author to immediately redirect me, which kept the suspense high and had me fully hooked. I also really liked Tessa and her character arc—watching her fall from the public’s good graces and wrestle with the cost of redemption added great depth. On the flip side, I wasn’t a fan of some of the relationship subplots, and the sheer number of deaths and their portrayal edged into horror territory at times. Still, this was a spine-tingling thriller that made for the perfect summer read. I’d definitely recommend it to thriller fans—especially if you like your suspense with an extra eerie edge. <image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE VIOLENCE: MILD This was one of my most anticipated thrillers of the year and I couldn’t wait to dive in. I had high hopes for a five-star banger. But in the end, it landed more in the middle for me. The story is told through multiple POVs, with the central voice being Nick Radcliffe—an unreliable, psychotic male main character who keeps you constantly on edge. Alongside Nick, we also hear from Ash, Nina, and Martha—three women who all share a connection to him, though not in the way you might expect. The book traces their separate lives until they converge in a shocking intersection no one could see coming. This story truly takes you on a psychological rollercoaster. What I enjoyed most? The nuance of being inside Nick’s head. His POV chapters were trippy, unsettling, and gave a chillingly realistic glimpse into how a psychopath might process the world. It was wild and disturbing, but impossible to look away from. That psychological angle is where Lisa Jewell really shines, and it’s what kept me turning the pages. My main complaint, though, is that the overall plot felt too simple. While the characters’ behaviors had layers of complexity, the storyline itself became easy to piece together. By about a quarter of the way through, I already had a solid grasp of what was happening, which made the thriller element feel anticlimactic. By the end, it read less like a nail-biting thriller and more like a straightforward psychological fiction. That being said, it was still a stirring story, packed with gripping explorations of manipulation and lies. I’d recommend this one to thriller fans—especially those who prefer their suspense with a heavier psychological edge. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 21+</image:caption>

<image:caption>John Mark Coomer hits it out of the park yet again! He’s easily one of my favorite religious authors. In this book he unpacks love, marriage, and sex—what they truly mean and how God intended for us to experience them. As always, he dives deep into the theology, offering clarity to Scriptures and concepts that culture (and even Christians) have sometimes distorted. I really appreciated how each section was clear and impactful without dragging on. The way he reframed love—shifting it from a fleeting verb (something you can “fall out of”) to a noun defined by self-giving—was such a powerfully shifting reminder. His breakdown of Adam and Eve as the blueprint for marriage was equally insightful, as was his perspective that sexual desire outside of marriage reflects misplaced trust in God’s design. Beyond marriage, his sections on singleness were refreshing and much-needed in today’s culture, and I loved his myth/truth approach to difficult topics like homosexuality—rooted in both biblical clarity and compassion. Overall, this book offers wisdom for people preparing for marriage, those who’ve been married for years, or anyone seeking to better understand God’s heart for relationships. I highly recommend if you’re dating, engaged, married, or even just curious about the theology behind love and intimacy. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 16+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE MATURE CONTENT INCLUDED This was easily my most anticipated memoir of the year! Why? Because I was a huge Alyson Stoner fan growing up. For whatever reason, Alyson was my absolute favorite Disney Channel kid. I’m talking “I wrote a fan mail letter and nearly lost my mind when a personalized, signed headshot came in the mail” favorite. Maybe it was that I always saw myself more as a “best friend” character than a “lead role,” but whatever it was, Alyson was the star I tuned in for. Reading this memoir felt like seeing through the looking glass of all the moments I grew up watching. The book itself was amazing—beautifully written, full of deep reflection and hard-won personal growth. Alyson shares the dismantling of being in the public eye: workaholism, perfectionism, people-pleasing, and the loss of self that can come with chasing others’ expectations. I resonated so much with Alyson’s journey of moving from achievement-driven living to finding peace and joy in simplicity. Other parts of Alyson’s story weren’t my lived experience, but I still appreciated learning how they shaped who Alyson is today. I truly admire the emotional and mental deconstruction Alyson’s done after her career and childhood— it was honest, sobering, incredibly brave, and most definitely not easy. There was nothing to dislike in this memoir, aside from the fact that it covers many heavy, potentially triggering topics—which Alyson does disclose upfront. It should be said that this book deals with mature themes, but Alyson approaches them with care and honesty. What makes it all the more admirable is how Alyson has turned the pain into a platform to advocate for change and help others in countless ways. The biggest takeaway for me was perspective. Growing up, I often fantasized about being on Disney Channel (who didn’t?), but this memoir makes clear that fame, status, and notoriety aren’t what they seem. In fact, the greatest gift might just be growing up as a normal kid. It’s all a moving reminder that you never know the reality behind the faces and shows we idolize. I highly recommend this memoir—not only for fans of Alyson or Disney Channel, but for anyone interested in stories of self-growth, healing, and learning to reclaim your life. <image:title>Fiction - AUGUST WRAP UP - RATING: 1.75 ⭐️</image:title>
<image:caption>MATURE CONTENT INCLUDED This was sadly my dreaded one star review. I picked this one up because—hello, Survivor fan here! While Parvati was never my all-time favorite player, she was undeniably one of the most entertaining and notorious winners, so I figured her memoir would be interesting. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t what I hoped for, and I walked away pretty disappointed. The first quarter of the book started off okay, but things quickly went downhill for me. While Parvati does show glimpses of the personal work she’s done, the level of self-awareness and ownership often felt stalled. Even her Survivor experiences were vaguely recounted, which was surprising given how much that shaped her public persona. Overall, the memoir felt a little surface level—more like snapshots from different moments in her life than a cohesive story with a strong through line. On the plus side, her narration style is warm, relatable, and engaging, which definitely carried the book and kept me listening. But I kept wishing for deeper self-reflection and a more layered look at her journey. Some parts also rubbed me the wrong way simply because of differing perspectives—which is totally valid since it’s her story, but it made the reading experience less enjoyable for me personally. By the last few chapters, I was upping the speed to x2 to hurry and get through to the end. Parvati has clearly been through a lot and her unique upbringing and adulthood give her a distinct lens on life. But unless you’re a die-hard Parvati fan, I wouldn’t recommend this. For fellow Survivor fans who are just curious, like I was, I’d say skip it and pick up something else. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 21+</image:caption>

      <image:title>Fiction - AUGUST WRAP UP - RATING: 5 ⭐️</image:title>
<image:caption>VIOLENCE: MILD August truly saved the best for last. I went into this book hoping Stacy Willingham wouldn’t disappoint and she absolutely did not! Finally, I got the perfect psychological suspense thriller that revived my love for this crazy genre. The story follows Claire, a journalist in the middle of an early-adulthood crisis. After quitting her job when she’s overlooked for a promotion, she reluctantly returns to her hometown in South Carolina—the same town she hasn’t set foot in since her sister Natalie disappeared 22 years earlier. With a long summer ahead, she takes a job at the same place her sister worked that fateful summer, only to find herself tangled in a mystery closely connected to Natalie’s disappearance. And wow. This was the thriller I had been waiting for. It struck the perfect balance: not overly wild, violent, or unbelievable, but a seamless blend of psychological suspense and layered mystery. The writing was vivid and atmospheric, pulling me into both the beauty and eeriness of the setting. I loved the nuance of the mystery—each layer revealed just enough to keep me hooked, without ever tipping its hand too soon. I was on edge the entire time, and when the twists did come, they landed perfectly. The pacing was excellent, especially the way Willingham alternated between the present and the past (told through diary entries). The reveals were timed with precision and there was still space at the end for meaningful character growth. I was also impressed with how she tied together so many threads without the story feeling cluttered. And the final tie-in to the title? Chef’s kiss—the double meaning of Forget Me Not being tied to both Natalie’s relationship with Claire and finally telling all the different girls’ stories was deeply satisfying. Obviously, I highly recommend this book—especially if you’re looking for a thriller with minimal violence but plenty of psychological punch. Willingham has officially cemented herself as one of my top thriller authors and I cannot wait to see what she gives us next! AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE VIOLENCE: LIGHT Liv Constantine is one of my go-to thriller authors, so I had high hopes going into this one. The premise was strong—classic, juicy thriller vibes—but somehow it just left me feeling… meh. We follow our female main character, Annabelle, a seemingly average woman whose life takes a turn when she starts having vivid dreams that begin coming true. We follow her as her mind unravels—questioning everything and everyone around her. And while the plot kept me reading, the twists didn’t quite deliver the punch I was hoping for. A few of the reveals were predictable (partly because I accidentally flipped ahead and saw something that ruined it), and instead of shocking me, they left me underwhelmed. I did really enjoy the dream element—especially as someone who has my own share of intense, vivid dreams—but that angle lost steam by the end and felt more like a dropped thread than a driving force. Overall, this was unfortunately my least favorite Liv Constantine to date. Still, if you're a fan of her writing or love a low-key thriller with a unique premise, it’s worth a read. <image:caption>This is such a needed and timely book for women today. Lisa Bevere powerfully unpacks why reclaiming our identity as women and standing in our God-given authority is so important—both spiritually and culturally. I found the second half of the book most impactful, as Lisa addresses specific aspects of womanhood that are under cultural attack. She pairs historical context with biblical truth, offering clarity on how we got here—and where God calls us to stand. What I appreciated most were the practical action steps she provides, empowering women to push back against cultural lies and walk boldly as daughters of God. This is a bold, challenging, and truth-filled read—especially in a world saturated with modern feminism and identity confusion. If you’re a Christian woman seeking to live with clarity and biblical conviction, I highly recommend this book. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 16+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE VIOLENCE: LIGHT This one follows five college students and their parents during the university’s annual Parents Weekend. Each of the students has something to hide—and so do their parents. But things take a sharp turn when all the kids suddenly... disappear. What follows is a suspenseful unraveling as the parents are forced to confront their own issues in order to uncover the truth. This was a solid, low-stakes thriller with good pacing and clean storytelling. I really enjoyed the multiple POVs—they were short, punchy, and didn’t overwhelm with too many details. The quick chapter switches kept the momentum going and added to the suspense, constantly making you second-guess what was really going on and who was responsible. I also appreciated how everything wrapped up neatly. All the storylines were resolved, which felt super satisfying, and the emotional touches at the end added a layer of heart you don’t always get with thrillers. That said, I do wish we got to see more of the mystery unfold on the page, rather than getting a retrospective explanation from the main female character. Still, these days, I have a real appreciation for a thriller that’s clean, straightforward, and actually makes sense in the end. I’d definitely recommend this one if you’re looking for a quick, weekend read with just enough mystery to keep you turning the pages. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE VIOLENCE: MODERATE Where were you when you first read The Hunger Games? I was home for Christmas break during my first year of college, and yes—I remember it like it was yesterday. That’s the power of a good book, and this prequel was no different. It took me right back into that world, and it did not disappoint. This installment dives into the origin story of one of the most beloved characters in the series: Haymitch Abernathy—our male main character. We follow him through the early days of his life, his brutal experience in the first Quarter Quell, and everything that followed. In short? It’s heartbreaking. Sad. Heavy. But deeply satisfying. One of my favorite things about this book was its clear through-line to Katniss. You get to witness the beginning of the rebellion—of tributes daring to defy the Capitol—and you realize that Haymitch was the one who lit the torch Katniss would later carry. The full-circle moment hit hard, and it made this prequel feel meaningful, not just an afterthought. Now, let me be honest. You know I love a games element in fantasy. But wow—this version felt so much more brutal and graphic than the original Hunger Games books. Some of the kills were just… a lot. And structurally, a few scenes jumped forward way too quickly, with transitions that felt jarring. It gave me a little reader whiplash at times. But even with that, what Suzanne Collins does best is still present: she makes you fall in love with these characters. You grow attached, even when you know what’s coming. The emotional pull is real—and that’s what makes this series unforgettable. This book absolutely lived up to the legacy of the original trilogy. If you loved the original series, this is a must-read. And yes… I may or may not be planning a full Hunger Games reread soon. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

<image:caption>This book came to me at exactly the right time. I picked it up while wrestling with the internal question: “Is it time to move on from this season of life?” What I found in these pages was so much more than advice—it was clarity, peace, and deep reflection. The author writes from a place of lived experience, weaving her own transitions and uncertainties into gentle, practical guidance for the reader. The heart of the book centers around learning how to discern when it’s time to leave a room, or when you’re actually being called to stay and see it through. What really set this book apart for me was the practicality. Emily doesn’t just give encouragement—she gives questions. So many thoughtful, reflective prompts that help you slow down, process, and truly sit with your thoughts and emotions. As a chronic overthinker, these were gold. They helped me go beneath surface-level feelings and uncover deeper truths—sometimes even beauty—in places I had assumed were finished. This isn’t a “one size fits all” kind of book. It doesn’t make the decision for you. Instead, it holds space for your process, hands you tools, and gently points you back toward God’s voice in the middle of it all. If you’re in an in-between season, wondering whether it’s time to walk away—or if you’re meant to stay—I highly recommend this one. It might not answer every question, but it will help you ask the right ones. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 16+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE VIOLENCE: LIGHT One of my favorite things about Book of the Month is getting my hands on a new release before it hits the shelves—and this one was my July pick! The story follows our female main character Beckett, a woman returning to her small hometown and college campus to drop off her daughter, Delilah, our second female main character. It’s a place Beckett has avoided for decades due to a long-buried mystery that changed her life. But now, as the past resurfaces, both mother and daughter must face what really happened all those years ago. To be honest, this one started off slow—the suspense didn’t really kick in until about a quarter of the way through. But once it picked up, I was locked in. The twists weren’t predictable (a must for me in thrillers), and I appreciated that it kept me guessing all the way to the end. The academic setting and eerie small-town vibe were perfect. I especially loved how the author wove in snippets from the past to connect the dots and deepen the mystery. My only hesitation? The ending for Beckett didn’t quite sit right with me. While she wasn’t innocent, she also wasn’t the villain—and the way things wrapped up felt a bit harsh. Maybe that’s a credit to the writing though, because I found myself truly rooting for her. This is a solid pick if you're in the mood for a slow-burn mystery with strong mother-daughter dynamics, dual timelines, and a college campus backdrop. Definitely a great one to add to your fall TBR as school season approaches! AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

<image:caption>I love a podcast-inspired TBR addition. I picked this one up after hearing Lisa Sun on an episode of Career Contessa. Lisa—founder and CEO of Gravitas—walks readers through eight core “superpowers” that she believes help women lead with confidence and, ultimately, develop their own gravitas. The standout moment for me was taking the strengths quiz and diving into the breakdown of each superpower (fellow Achievers, where you at?). It’s always fun to learn a new vocabulary for traits you already recognize in yourself. But here’s where things fell short: once I got past the quiz section, the book quickly became repetitive. By the 3/4 mark, I found myself speeding up the audiobook just to reach the end. The “superpowers” themselves didn’t feel especially groundbreaking—and while I appreciate what the author was aiming for, it didn’t offer me much new insight or practical application. For me, it was a fun way to reframe familiar strengths… but not an essential read. That said, I do think this book could be a powerful resource for women struggling with confidence—especially in professional spaces. If you’re in a season where you’re building your voice at work or stepping into leadership for the first time, this might hit differently for you. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

<image:caption>SPICE: LIGHT ❤️‍ Remember when I said I was only reading thrillers for the month of July? Yeah… I caved. I ended the month on a romance—and I definitely don’t regret it. This book follows our female main character, Ali, a professional organizer whose personal life is anything but organized. In the wake of her mother’s death and a painful divorce, she’s lost her voice, her joy, and her sense of self. Enter Scooter—our charming male main character—who helps Ali find her way back to a life worth living. Annabel Monaghan has mastered the art of the lighthearted and emotional read. What I especially loved here was the way Scooter built such a genuine relationship with Ali’s kids. There’s something about seeing a man love the kiddos that pulls on the heartstrings— and the emotional growth in this book? It was so raw. Watching Ali come to terms with how she’d slowly disappeared into a toxic marriage, how her mother unknowingly enabled it, and—perhaps most gutting of all—how it impacted her daughter’s self-worth was reflective and beautiful to watch unfold. Even Scooter had his own emotional journey—working through family dynamics and finally stepping out from under the weight of his parents’ opinions. And we cannot forget Phyllis. Her quote is still pulling at my heart:“Life’s going to do what life’s going to do. You might as well have a dog.” IYKYK. These full-circle arcs really made this more than just a sweet love story—it made it meaningful. This was yet another heartfelt hit from Monaghan that left me dropping a tear or two. I highly recommend any and all her books as they make the perfect sweet, summer romances. (Pun very much intended.) AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

<image:caption>VIOLENCE: LIGHT SPICE: MILD ❤️‍❤️‍ Nothing says summertime like a good old-fashioned block party—especially one packed with rich, secretive families and a whole lot of drama. This story follows the well-to-do families of Alton Road. One summer, a new family moves in. By the next? Someone ends up dead. Told through multiple POVs, the book unravels the events that unfold between those two summers, slowly building toward the explosive block party where all the secrets finally come to light. This was a fast-paced, low-stakes thriller that made for a quick and entertaining read. I really appreciated the way the story came full circle, with revenge as a recurring theme woven through the different characters’ situations and perspectives—it gave the plot a cohesive thread to follow. That said, I did struggle a bit with the sheer number of characters. With so many POVs and couples, it was easy to lose track of who was who. And while the story had its twists, a few of the major reveals were pretty predictable by the halfway point, which made the ending feel a little anticlimactic. In the end, I was hoping for more shock value than I got. But if you’re in the mood for a quick, low-risk thriller, this one might be a good pick for your next weekend read! <image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE SPICE: MILD ❤️‍❤️‍ I love a good summer romance, and this one brought the feels. The story follows our female main character, Jane, who’s determined to shed her former child star image and earn respect as a studio executive. In her quest for a big career breakthrough, she’s unexpectedly forced to team up with an unlikely rival, Dan, our male main character. That said, I have to admit—I struggled with the first 37% of this book. The pacing felt slow, and I had a hard time connecting with both the characters and the storyline. I especially found it tough to relate to Jane’s character and, truthfully, didn’t love her from the start. But the second half? Totally different story. Once Jane started letting down her guard and falling for Dan, the book really came alive. Their relationship dynamic took off, and the small, intimate moments between them were beautifully written. The heart of the book lies in their love story (no pun intended)—and in Jane’s journey to realizing that she is, in fact, lovable. The ending still left me a little conflicted about Jane as a character, but the author’s descriptive, heartfelt writing more than made up for it. I especially appreciated the deeper themes around shame, false narratives, and what it means to feel “enough.” If you’re looking for a quick, light summer read with a surprisingly heartfelt core, this one is definitely worth picking up! <image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE SPICE: STRONG ❤️‍❤️‍❤️‍❤️‍ This book was peak enemies-to-lovers in all the best ways. We follow our female main character, Elle, who lands an incredible opportunity to write a big-name romance movie set in NYC. Enter our male main character, billionaire Parker Warren, who’s in need of a fake relationship to boost his public image. Despite a cringeworthy past encounter—and the fact that Elle can’t stand him—she reluctantly agrees to play along, hoping the experience will spark the inspiration she needs for her screenplay. What follows is everything the best rom-coms are made of. This one started off a little slow for me, but it quickly turned into a romance I was fully invested in. One of the standout elements was the imagery of NYC in the summer—it made me want to book a trip back ASAP. The fake dating trope was handled really well, especially paired with the thoughtful exploration of how money and privilege can impact love and relationships. The chemistry and dialogue between the characters brought the romance to life, and I especially loved the “he falls first” dynamic in their relationship—it’s a refreshing twist on what we usually see. Parker really grew on me as a MMC. He wasn’t just a “rich guy”—there was real emotional depth to his character. And Elle’s journey from someone who wanted to be invisible to being someone truly seen was such a beautiful part of the story. Her growth felt authentic, and it added a lot of heart and nuance to her character. My main drawback? The level of spice. While I get that the fake dating was meant to build anticipation, once things heated up, the spice felt overdone and out of sync with the tone of the rest of the story. It started to overshadow the emotional growth and characters I was loving. Honestly, this could’ve been a 5-star read for me if the steamy scenes had been scaled back just a bit. That said, I still recommend this book—just proceed with caution if you're not a fan of extra spice. It’s a fun, flirty summer romance that totally channels the best vibes of early 2000s rom-coms! <image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE Craig Groeschel rarely misses, and this book was no exception. As a longtime fan of his leadership podcast, I was excited to finally dive into one of his books—and I’m so glad I did. This one tackles some of the biggest, most commonly asked questions around God, faith, and Christianity. Questions I’ve definitely wrestled with myself as I’ve grown older and faced more of life head-on. What I appreciated most is how this book brought clarity to some of the things I’ve personally grappled with in my faith. But even beyond that, it gave me language to explain and discuss these topics with others—especially in a culture where doubt is so prevalent and faith is often questioned. Groeschel does an amazing job of normalizing that doubt isn’t something to hide from. At some point, everyone experiences it—no matter how long you’ve walked with God. And instead of shying away from that reality, this book leans into it and offers real, biblically grounded answers. Whether you’re personally looking for clarity or just want to be better equipped to have these conversations with others, I highly recommend this book to every Christian. It’s honest, practical, and full of truth. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 16+</image:caption>

We follow female main character, Percy, and male main character, Sam through a swoony childhood sweethearts journey that unfolds over six glorious summers. It’s second chance romance done near perfection. The past-to-present structure is seamless, never choppy, and actually elevates the story, giving depth to both their summer memories and the moments in between. Simply put—it’s beautifully written, emotionally rich, and packed with characters you can’t help but root for. What I really appreciated about this book is that it didn’t just linger in the joy of being in love—it also leaned into the ache. The distress, the vulnerability, the heartbreak. That emotional depth brought real weight to the story, and yes… maybe a tear or two at the end. There’s nothing quite like a book that moves you like that. It’s rare. <image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE I have mixed feelings about this one. I listened to it on audio, and that format definitely shaped my experience—for better and worse. On the upside, the narration was incredibly well done. It followed a cohesive timeline through her life and gymnastics career, which kept me engaged. But here’s the catch: it wasn’t narrated by her. I didn’t realize this until the very end, and honestly, it threw me. The narration had been one of my favorite parts, so learning it wasn’t actually her voice added a layer of disconnect I didn’t expect. That said, it was still powerful to witness her journey as a gymnast and everything it took to get to the Paris Olympics. I especially appreciated the behind-the-scenes look at the mindset and day-to-day life of an elite gymnast—both in the lead-up to the Games and in the midst of competition. Her vulnerability in sharing not just the highs, but also the challenges and heartbreaks, added real weight to her story—making the stripping of her bronze medal all the more heartbreaking. At times, I did find myself wanting more depth—particularly when it came to the broader issues within the sport. Many of the topics she touched on have existed for decades, and I believe they deserve more space and conversation. Still, this was an excellent memoir that offered a well-rounded look at her personal and professional journey. I definitely recommend it if you’re a fan of Jordan or have a love for the sport of gymnastics. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 16+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE SPICE: STRONG ❤️‍❤️‍❤️‍❤️‍ Good things happen at the lake—need I say more? This, my friends, is the perfect summer romance. We get to follow our female main character, Alice, as she returns to the lake house where she once spent an unforgettable summer as a teen. During her stay, she meets Charlie—our male main character and the charming brother of Sam from Every Summer After. (Yes, you definitely want to read Every Summer After first for the full emotional payoff.) Alice and Charlie spend the summer soaking up everything lakeside living has to offer—including a romance that sneaks up on them in the best way. These are easily some of the most lovable characters I’ve encountered so far in 2025. Their banter? Perfect. The romantic tension? Thick and delicious in all the right ways. This book makes you feel like you’re right there at the lake—letting go, unwinding, and falling in love right alongside them. There’s this carefree, sun-soaked tone that’s impossible not to absorb as a reader. Carley Fortune’s writing is, once again, stunning. Her descriptive style pulls you into the story and makes everything feel viscerally real. Literal perfection. What really sets this book apart is the depth of Alice’s journey—watching her gain confidence, step into her voice, and fully embrace who she is. And the romance? Depicts one of the best MMCs I’ve read—genuinely kind, emotionally mature, and grounded in all the ways that matter. Plus, the supporting characters are full of wit and realism, and somehow Fortune nails tropes that often go sideways (friends with benefits, terminal illness, miscommunication) and makes them work beautifully. Do yourself a favor and read this book. If you're not smiling, crying, laughing, and immediately looking up lake house rentals by the end—I’ll personally refund your money (kidding… but also, not really). This story gave me all the feels in the very best way. It’s a 10/10 and absolutely in the running for my favorite book of the year! AGE RECOMMENDATION: 21+</image:caption>

<image:caption>This my friends is a compelling read. If you grew up in the church, have worked in the church—or even just engage consistently with pastors or church leaders—this would be a great book for you to pick up. The word “narcissist” gets tossed around a lot these days—often carelessly. But this book isn’t about finger-pointing, villainizing, or making emotional accusations. Instead, it offers a well-reasoned and honest look at how narcissism quietly—and sometimes not so quietly—creeps into the church. And it’s not just about pastors. The culprits can be anyone, touching regular church leaders and volunteers alike. It’s a sobering, necessary conversation we don’t have nearly enough. This book brought so much clarity and understanding to some of my own experiences with leaders over the past decade. But it didn’t stop there—it also held up a mirror and challenged me to take a hard, honest look at myself as a leader. Because surely I couldn’t be a narcissist… right? Well, not necessarily. What this book revealed is that narcissistic tendencies aren’t reserved for the extremes. We all carry traces of them, and if we’re not mindful, they can quietly seep into the way we lead. Overall, I really appreciated the author’s ability to provide both language and context—the kind that helps you feel seen and begin to heal from past wounds. At the same time, he offers empathy and deep insight into the hearts of pastors and leaders who may be wrestling with narcissism themselves. If you’re in the Christian community, this is a definite must read. AGE RECOMMENTDATION: 18+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE VIOLENCE: LIGHT SPICE: LIGHT ❤️‍ There’s no reading slump that Freida McFadden can’t cure. Whenever I feel myself slipping into a slump, I reach for an author who I know delivers—and Freida always does. Her books are fast-paced, wildly binge-able, and exactly what I need to break a slump. In this new release, we follow our main male character, Blake, as he tries to recover from a major career setback. To make ends meet, he and his fiancé decide to take in a tenant—cue the chaos. As tensions rise, Blake grows increasingly suspicious of their new houseguest, and things quickly spiral. What really stood out to me was that the story is told entirely from Blake’s perspective, and he's a bit of an unreliable narrator, which I loved. At times, I genuinely thought he was losing it—and honestly, he kind of was. I thought the twist in this one was solid—a little predictable, but in a way that felt satisfying rather than disappointing. Honestly, that’s exactly what I’ve come to expect from Freida McFadden, and it’s why she’s my go-to when I need a quick reading pick-me-up. This was definitely my favorite of hers in a while, and I’d recommend it if you’re in the mood for a fast, twisty read that keeps you hooked. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 21+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE VIOLENCE: LIGHT This was a new release thriller recommended to me by my long time best friend and fellow avid reader—Thanks Robyn! In this book, we follow our female main character, Nic, as she searches for the truth behind her sister Kasey’s disappearance. Along the way, she teams up with Jenna, another girl whose sister vanished just two weeks before Kasey. Together, they dive into the mystery, determined to uncover what really happened to both girls. The pacing was solid for a thriller—fast enough to keep things moving, with chapters that always left me just curious enough to see what would happen next. While I didn’t always feel fully connected to the characters, the plot kept me turning the pages. Speaking of the characters—I struggled with them. It felt like we were thrown straight into the plot without much character development, which made it hard to connect from the start. The dialogue, especially in the beginning, felt off—awkward and inauthentic to the point that it pulled me out of the story. As a reader who really connects through characters, I need that depth and insight into their backgrounds and inner thoughts. Without it, I just can’t fully invest—and unfortunately, that was the case here. I will say, I appreciated that the twists weren’t predictable. However, the final twist came way too fast, and there just wasn’t enough time to properly wrap things up. It left behind a lot of plot holes, which made the ending feel unrealistic and hard to believe. If you enjoy thrillers, you might still find this one entertaining, but fair warning: the ending will probably leave you with more questions than answers. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

<image:caption>SPICE: LIGHT ❤️‍ This book was an emotional read—dealing with an amnesia trope, deep rooted family dynamics, and quite a few heavier topics. In this story, we follow our female main character, Evie, who wakes up after an accident with severe memory loss. As she tries to piece together her past and make sense of who she is and how she got there, she’s guided by her old friend, Drew, our male main character. The book shifts between past and present timelines, which can take a minute to get used to, but it’s handled really well. The characters were easily one of the highlights for me—so well-done and genuinely lovable. It was impossible not to root for Drew, and I found myself truly feeling Evie’s pain and devastation right alongside her. While I enjoyed the second chance romance, it did feel a bit rushed toward the end. I was left with a few lingering questions, especially around the family dynamics that had been such a big part of the story. It felt like there was more to unpack there, and I wish we’d been given just a little more time to sit with those final revelations. Overall, this wasn’t my favorite read—but I did enjoy the second chance romance and emotional depth of the characters. If you like a book that discusses lost love and deep family dynamics—albeit toxic ones—you will enjoy this book. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

<image:caption>This book was absolutely beautiful, and for me, the message came at just the right time. I listened to it on audiobook, which I highly recommend. Having known and done life with the author, DawnCheré Wilkerson, in a previous season, this felt less like a typical read and more like sitting down for a heart-to-heart with a friend—and that connection made the reading experience all the more meaningful. This book explores what it truly means to wait on God—and how we can do so with wonder, expectation, and joy. One of the most powerful aspects of the book is how the author shares her own personal seasons of waiting on God, offering stories that are raw, relatable, and full of faith. Having witnessed some of these moments firsthand, I can confidently say that the principles she shares have been lived out, tested, and proven true. Her words aren’t just theory—they’re testimony. God really does meet us in the wait, if only we’ll let Him. DawnCheré’s genuineness radiates through every moment, wrapping this book in a sense of authentic sincerity that leaves you feeling inspired, seen, and encouraged to partner with God—no matter what kind of waiting season you’re in. I highly recommend this book to all my Christian girls, but also to anyone navigating a season of waiting and searching for purpose and wonder in the midst of it. This book is a gentle reminder that the wait isn’t wasted—God is right there in it with you. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 16+</image:caption>

This book is the cutest second chance romance, following our female main character, Sam, as she returns to her family’s beach house and unexpectedly runs into her ex and former neighbor, Wyatt, our male main character. On the surface, Sam has the “picture-perfect” life—but being back home makes her question whether it’s truly what her heart wants… or if something—or someone—is still missing. I absolutely loved the beachy, summer setting, which made this the perfect read for this time of year. The past-tense POVs from both Sam and Wyatt were so enjoyable, especially as we watched them navigate first love, heartbreak, and everything in between. Also… a musician MMC? Yes, please. Ha! Honestly, there’s not much to dislike about this book. If anything, I just wish there had been a bit more emotional depth and complexity to the characters—that would’ve pushed it to a higher rating for me. But if you’re in the mood for a lighthearted, feel-good beach read, this one absolutely hits the mark! AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

<image:caption>We love rich people drama—especially when it’s Miami rich people. This book is a sharp, satirical take on a group of PTA moms in Miami Beach, told through multiple POVs but primarily centered on Charlotte, the polished PTA leader, and Melody, the wide-eyed newcomer from Kansas. From gossip and comparison to secrets and scandal, the story delivers plenty of juicy moments, all building toward a twisty conclusion. It’s snarky, dramatic, and totally binge-able. What makes this book so great is how spot-on the depictions of Miami life really are. Some of the moments might seem outrageous or over-the-top—but if you’ve ever lived in Miami, you know they’re not only believable… they’re basically nonfiction. And that’s what makes it such a blast to read. From name-drops of trendy hotspots to the wild antics of the city's elite, this book captures the lifestyle of Miami in the most entertaining way. It definitely won’t be for everyone, but if you’re into quick reads, rich people drama, and a little bit of chaos, this one is totally worth it. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 21+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE SPICE: NONE Redemption was nigh with this one! After a month full of middle-of-the-road reads, this book totally saved the day. We follow our female main character, Katie, as she heads to Key West to film a Coast Guard special featuring our male main character, Hutch. Along the way, Katie is also navigating being a “love hater”—struggling not only with romantic relationships but also with the deeper journey of self-love. Surprisingly, this book has gotten some mixed reviews, but honestly? I don’t care what the haters say—I loved it. From the Key West setting to the Coast Guard vibes and the unintentional proximity romance, I devoured every page. Hutch is easily one of my favorite MMCs of the year. Maybe it’s the man-in-uniform charm, or that perfect stormy-sunshine energy, but either way—I adored his character. The dialogue was great and engaging, and I actually appreciated that the romantic scenes didn’t dominate the story. That balance left space for other standout characters—like Rue and her friends—who added heart and humor in all the right places. Honestly, one of the best parts of this book was the FMC’s journey toward self-love—finally letting go of her long-held self-criticism and learning to see herself with kindness. That said, the specific scene depicting this shift did make me cringe a little, and the entire middle storyline with Cole felt unnecessary. Those were the only elements I could’ve done without. Thankfully, they weren’t enough to take away from the overall bliss of the book. Obviously, I highly recommend this one! It’s the perfect light, non-steamy summer read—complete with fun characters, a tropical setting, and a sweet reminder of the importance of self-love. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE VIOLENCE: SEVERE One word: Wow. Now, this is a controversial book in the reading community, but I have to be honest, I loved it. This book follows our female main character, Jane, as she navigates the loss of her father, turning to an online armchair sleuth community in an attempt to solve crimes—and, in her own way, process her grief. Even though the subject matter of this book is mirrored around true events, which some find to be distasteful, it was the prose and conversation around the online armchair community that made this such a compelling read in my opinion. The author’s exploration of society’s obsession with true crime—and how everyday people insert themselves into these cases, often at the expense of victims and their families—was eye-opening and sparked a conversation worth exploring. I will say that the depictions of crime and murder in this book was more graphically descriptive than I would have preferred. However, I do recommend this book if you are someone who loves thrillers or true crime. It will make you stop and ask yourself: Why am I so invested in these stories? Is it grief? Curiosity? A need to make sense of the unknown? A yearning for justice? A connection to the victims—or even the perpetrators? Or am I just a little unhinged? If you’re sensitive to severe violence, this probably isn’t the one for you. But if you’re fascinated by the deeper nuances of true crime and psychology, it just might be a must-read. <image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE SPICE: MODERATE ❤️‍❤️‍❤️‍ Oh, Abby Jimenez—I love you and yet, you leave me so frustrated half the time. This was definitely one of my most anticipated releases of the year but in some ways, it was kind of a letdown. This story follows our female main character, Samantha, and male main character, Xavier. From their meet-cute in a vet’s office to the ups and downs of a long, drawn-out, long-distance relationship, where the lingering question is always: will they, or won’t they, end up together? Along the way, we get a lot of beautiful, albeit heartbreaking family dynamics from our FMC, Samantha. Let’s start with what I loved: a lovable MMC, the perfect meet-cute and first date, and some really dynamic family relationships. But here’s where it lost me—and why it landed in the 3-star zone: constant miscommunication (ugh), the long-distance trope (not my fave), a severe family illness subplot, and a relationship situation that just felt way too drawn out. Sadly, most of these are all typical Abby Jimenez elements and perhaps—I’m just over it? I still enjoyed this book overall, I just wish we could get more stories from Jimenez without a terminally ill character and an overdrawn out plot. I would still recommend this book. It just personally wasn’t my favorite by Jimenez. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 21+</image:caption>

<image:caption>We love a good Bachelor or Bachelorette memoir and this was actually one of my favorites! I say actually because Rachel Lindsay wasn’t necessarily one of my favorite Bachelorettes—I felt like I never resonated or connected with her while she was on the show. But that totally changed listening to her memoir! I really appreciated her realness and authenticity in this book. It felt like listening to a girlfriend tell her story in a way that made you feel like—“yeah girl, me too”. Specifically, I found her depictions of growing up as a black girl in a predominately white environment all too relatable. I also enjoyed her opening up about the pressure to succeed in a career that didn’t always feel authentic to her—and how her time on The Bachelor/Bachelorette ultimately helped her break in to more authentic opportunities, like hosting and commentating. It was also refreshing to hear her talk about the darker side of reality TV without trying to please the producers or protect the franchise—just honest, real, and unafraid to call out the things that were truly messed up. I definitely recommend this one for any fans of the show or just fans of cool, strong women. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

Was I blown away? Not intially. I spent the first half of this book thinking—“I don’t get the hype and I don’t know why I should care about this story or the characters”—but the second half delivered! My jaw dropped when I hit the plot twist and I realized, “Ohhh… I get it now. I’m all in!” This book is the first of a five book fantasy series following our female main character Feyre in the world of Prythian as she unpacks the history between the mortals and the faeries. At first, this plot gives modern day Beauty and the Beast vibes—hence why I wasn’t totally enamored. The first half is rather slow-paced and focused on world building and the slow burn romance. But I have to honest—I could not get into the romance element between Feyre and Tamlin. Even after finishing, I’m still not that into it (call me Team Rhysand, I guess). The second half of this book is where the action and pace pick up, becoming much more exciting. If you pick up this book and struggle to get through the first half—keep going! I promise it’s worth it for that final plot twist! Overall, I did end up loving this book. It was a good series opener. I can’t wait to continue the series and see where it goes from here—stay tuned! It follows our female male character, Nora, who is a writer and post divorcée, navigating a career project that leads to an unexpected romance. The setting and characters of this book were perfect at conjuring up visceral images throughout the book—making it the perfect spring or summer read. The romance was a sweet, almost innocent slow burn—perfectly delivering all the feels of falling in love when you least expect it. I appreciated the unique plot of Nora using her divorce to write a movie script and how the filming of that movie opens up emotions that move her into not only finding love again—but also acceptance and healing. Also, the emphasis on motherhood added such real, emotional layers to the plot and romance. One of the best parts had to be the male main character, Leo, falling in love with Nora’s children and building those relationships—definitely a tear jerker! This is a charming, emotional, funny romance—perfect for a quick trip, beach read, or afternoon in a coffee shop. It will have you smiling, laughing, and even shedding a happy tear or two. <image:caption>All my 90’s and early 2000’s kids, this one’s for you! If you grew up enamored or obsessed with this iconic period of time on the Disney Channel—this is a must-read for you. Now I will say, sometimes these types of biography non-fictions can be hit or miss. It truly depends on the author, the research, and the way it’s tied together and presented—but Ashley Spencer did not miss with this one! As someone who already knows a fair share of lore from these shows and the stars behind them, I was surprised by just how many new tidbits I picked up. What really stood out were the behind-the-scenes insights—stories and perspectives from network executives, showrunners, writers, and more. Those details added so much context, giving a more complete picture of those iconic moments and memories we all remember from our pre-teen days. Perhaps it’s because I’m an adult now in the workforce that I found all this information to be the most interesting—as I can now relate and put myself more in the shoes of show runners than the child stars. I appreciated how Ashley took a deep look into all the major moments from this time period—breaking each show or defining moment into their own respective chapters. The only thing that lacked for me was a more defining resolution to how or what led to the tween empire’s downfall for the channel. It felt like the storytelling cut off abruptly and we didn’t actually get an analytical look into specifically where it all went wrong. Obviously there’s the internet boom and streaming—but I would have loved to go deeper than that. All in all, I highly recommend this book to all my fellow millennials out there. Specifically the audiobook, as it’s narrated by non other than Miranda herself from Lizzie McGuire. IYKYK. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE VIOLENCE: LIGHT SPICE: LIGHT ❤️‍ Ah… a new release thriller from Book of the Month is almost as good as Christmas morning. Although truthfully, this one was just mid—hence the 3 star rating. I didn’t hate it, but I didn't love it—I just mildly liked it—and sometimes that’s all I really ask for. This book follows our female main character, Liz, a world class swindler of the rich, whose cat-fishing antics take her to a tropical Mexican resort where chaos ensues. This book wasn’t overly enticing or thrilling. The plot twists were somewhat predictable, but it got the job done. I enjoyed the rich people drama, antics, and the slightly unreliable FMC. Also, we love a good bait and switch plot—if it’s done correctly—and this one was. If you’re looking for a quick read and a low stakes thriller— this is the book for you! Pick it up and have a good time. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 18+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE VIOLENCE: LIGHT SPICE: MILD ❤️‍❤️‍ Let’s move on to one of my most anticipated thrillers of this year! This book is the sequel to “The Perfect Marriage—so make sure to read that first before picking this one up. “The Perfect Marriage” was a five star read for me. So, I went into this book with tempered expectations because most sequels hardly live up to a five star original. However, I did enjoy this one! I will say I found myself having to stop in the beginning to do a refresh of characters and plot points from the first book—as there’s multiple characters and references from the original in this sequel. We’re following our female main character, Sarah, as she navigates filing for her new divorce alongside some new discoveries from the crime of the original book. Even now, it’s hard to pinpoint why this book fell a little short for me in the end. I think it’s because we know from the first book that our FMC can’t be trusted, so it makes some of the scenarios in this book that are supposed to be mysterious—ultimately predictable? It’s like we’re waiting for that one big final moment that turns us on our heads but once we get there it was like —“Well, duh of course that happened.” However, what set this book apart from the original—and keeps you on the edge of your seat—was the cat and mouse game between the FMC Sarah and MMC Bob. In my opinion, what carried this book was the constant challenge of figuring out who was really playing whom, which side you wanted to see come out on top, and who deserved to end up dead or in jail. If you’re a thriller fan, this is definitely worth the read! AGE RECOMMENDATION: 21+</image:caption>

<image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE SPICE: LIGHT ❤️‍ VIOLENCE: LIGHT Oh boy… where do I even begin? This was one of my top three most anticipated releases of 2025. Did this book live up to my expectations? Yes and no. Did this series end how I wanted it to? Yes and no. Did the author take creative liberties that absolutely infuriated me? Yes.. yes she did. Did it leave me utterly conflicted on how I feel about this book overall? Abso-freaking-lutely. It took me over a week to rate this book because I just could not decide how I felt—but let’s break it down. This is the third book in the Powerless trilogy which was the first fantasy series I got into in my adult reading era—although it is a young adult book. Last year, I read both “Powerless” and “Reckless” within a week and was counting down the days until this release. This series follows our female main character, Paedyn, and male main character, Kai, in a high stakes enemies to lovers romance within the political, familial dynamics in the kingdom of Illya. It also follows our secondary male main character, Kitt, in his becoming of power within the kingdom. Here’s what I loved: Kai and Paedyn (obviously), the return of trials and games, deeper exploration of the kingdom and its cities, the addition of a new POV that brings intrigue, the layered mystery within the family, and Kai’s struggle between loyalty to his lover and his bloodline—even with its various cringe moments. But what it really comes down to are the things I despised — spoilers ahead. The final trial was a mess of lies and unnecessary dramatics we didn’t need. The "Paedyn, I am your father" reveal? It tore a gaping hole in Edric’s character arc and unraveled plot threads from the earlier books. Then there was the outright destruction of one of the series’ most beloved characters—outrageous and completely unearned. The marriage? Knowing what we find out later, it felt like unintentional layers we absolutely could’ve done without. And finally, the naming of the child at the end—it came off as deeply insensitive to Adena, especially after watching Paedyn grieve her the entire book. Ultimately, my gripes with this book really pointed at the authors use of twists for pure shock value and not for the comprehensive storytelling of the series. All in all, I loved the first half of the book and wanted to rip it apart the second half—yet, I still think this is one of the best series altogether. I definitely do recommend reading all three books—then let’s go get coffee and chat all about it. AGE RECOMMENDATION: 16+</image:caption>

<image:caption>This memoir was very well done! I listened to the audiobook and I highly recommend that format. It includes elements with music plus Will Smith performing various parts in song—which made it so different and cool. He is such an engaging storyteller making it such an entertaining listen. I learned so much more about him, and I loved getting a glimpse into his journey as a rapper—and how he chased that dream long before acting was ever on the table. The pacing was great and it stayed on a linear track of storytelling which can be make or break for me in a memoir. The only thing that kept this from being a five-star read for me was the way Will’s narration often carried a sense of ego that overshadowed parts of his story. He shows good self-reflection, ownership, and ability to learn from mistakes but it’s in a way that ultimately leads back to subtly being about how great he is. Still, I would still definitely recommend this memoir for everyone! It’s filled with great stories and a strong ending that tied everything together perfectly. <image:caption>2025 NEW RELEASE SPICE: MILD ❤️‍❤️‍ There’s nothing better than sitting down to read an Emily Henry book for the first time—and this one did not disappoint! The story follows our female main character, Alice, and male main character, Hayden, as they compete for authorship of a famous socialite’s biography. This octogenarian, former socialite is our secondary female main character, named Margaret Ives. This book differs from previous Emily Henry books because it contains a story within the story, along with some mystery and more contemporary fiction elements. I actually appreciated the nuances of this book and still really enjoyed the forced proximity, grumpy sunshine romance between the two main characters. However, there was a certain point of this book—about 3/4 through—where things started to fall a little flat for me. The romance kind of tempered out and the telling of Margaret’s story kind of lost me. Even then—you just can’t beat Emily Henry’s descriptive writing and emotional storytelling. She truly has a way of writing the most lovable characters and memorable romances. In comparison to her other books, this was one of my least favorite Emily Henry books—but I would still recommend it to everyone! AGE RECOMMENDATION: 21+</image:caption>
