FALL FAVORITES: TOP 5 PICKS

Disclaimer: I read books based on preferences which take into account my faith and personal convictions. Please check any of my recommendations against your own convictions and read responsibly.

Fall reading is slowly becoming my new favorite season. I know, I know—I’ve been a tried-and-true summer reading fanatic forever. But there’s something about that shift from summer to fall that can’t be ignored. Life slows down, the air cools off, and the vibes move from fun and carefree to something a little softer, cozier, and more relaxed.

And honestly, our reading shifts right along with it. After a summer filled with sweeping, high-stakes romances, pulse-pounding thrillers, and stories set on beaches and faraway destinations, fall welcomes a different kind of story. The romances burn slower, the mysteries get atmospheric, the stories become more character-driven, and the fantasies somehow feel even more like an escape.

And let’s be honest, while cracking open a new book poolside is a prime reading experience, something just hits different about opening the windows on a chilly day, brewing a fresh cup of coffee, and letting a book carry you away.

The question is: what should you read on a day like that?

There are so many books I could recommend for the season, but instead of giving you an endless list, I’ve narrowed it down to five books I think absolutely belong on your fall TBR. From whodunnits to layered romances to fantasies that transport you to the best worlds, there’s something here for every reading taste.

And if you only have time for one? Don’t worry—I’ve got my #1 fall pick for you, too. Let’s get into it!

For all my readers who love a good mystery!

The story follows Pip, a high school student determined to solve a closed murder case involving two former students. But when the clues start pointing toward the alleged killer being innocent, she’ll stop at nothing to uncover the truth—even if it means putting herself in danger.

This story delivers all the page-turning thrills of a book you simply can’t resist. The best part is how completely it immerses you in the mystery—you feel like you’re right there with Pip, combing through every clue, suspecting every character, and trying to solve the case alongside her. Believe me, you won’t want to stop until you reach the end…and then you’ll probably binge the entire series in a week. And spoiler: the book is 1000x better than the Netflix series.

#4

The perfect high-stakes thriller with all the best elements of the college experience.

The story follows Margot as she’s pulled into the orbit of three college girls led by the enigmatic Lucy. But when Lucy goes missing and a frat boy is murdered, Margot is left questioning who she can trust, how well she ever really knew her friend, and just how far she’s willing to go for the people who matter most.

This book captures the buzzy highs and devastating lows of female friendship during those formative college years—with a tantalizingly dark twist. Add an eerie atmosphere and plenty of psychological suspense, and you have the kind of thriller you’ll be hard-pressed to put down.

#3

Dragons and powers? Need I say more?

The story follows Violet as she enters her first year at Basgiath War College, expecting a quiet life in the Scribe Quadrant. Instead, she’s thrust into the dangerous, chaotic world of dragon riders, where she’s underestimated, targeted, and simply trying to survive everyone’s hidden agendas. Oh, and there’s a war brewing in the kingdom plus a love-hate battle simmering between her and the ruthless, tantalizing wingleader, Xaden.

This book is what fantasy dreams are made of—high stakes, enemies-to-lovers romance, immersive world-building, lovable characters, explosive twists, and plenty of action, suspense, and adventure. It’s the kind of addictive world that will have you canceling plans to stay locked in until the bitter end. This is the first in a five-book series (books 4 & 5 are yet to be released), but personal hot take: this first installment is by far the best. Do with that what you will.

#2

The perfect romance to whisk you away and make you believe in love.

The story follows Clementine, a woman with her life fairly mapped out—except when it comes to love. After experiencing a devastating loss, letting people in hasn’t exactly been easy. Then a man seemingly appears in her apartment…except he exists seven years in the past. As if that’s not complicated enough, Clementine finds herself falling for someone she may never actually get the chance to be with.

This book beautifully captures the meaning of “right person, wrong time”—or perhaps, “wrong time, right person.” Its emotional depth mixed with lighthearted magical realism makes it impossible not to become invested in Clementine’s story and root for her happy ending, even when it feels impossible. It’s equal parts hopeful and heartbreaking—which sometimes makes for the very best kind of love story.

#1

“I can’t promise the sunshine, but I can do everything else.”

The story follows Lenny in the wake of her best friend’s death as she navigates a season of deep grief. Along the way, she takes a babysitting job for a little girl named Ainsley, whose presence brings Miles into Lenny’s life—along with an unexpected proposition that may help them both face their biggest struggles: family and grief.

This book will pull at your heartstrings and refuse to let go. It’s a beautiful story about healing and the small, meaningful ways we find our way forward—even when there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. And while there is romance, the real love story is about how deeply we need one another in this life. It’s a reminder that sometimes, simply showing up for someone in their darkest moments is the most powerful form of love.

Trust me—if you read only one book this fall, I am begging you: make it this one!
